Every year in June there's the Round the Island Race where thousands of yachts put on a fantastic spectacle as they race round the IOW. And, of course, in August the whole of Cowes takes on an international feel during Cowes week.
Cowes Week started in 1826, and since then has grown and grown to become one of the world's most famous sailing regattas. Nowadays, it stages up to 40 daily races for around 1,000 boats and is the largest sailing regatta of its kind in the world. Away from the water, there's always plenty going on, from street entertainers to live bands and beer tents.
